Learn how to protect your specifications and improve the quality of building projects. Substitutions occur when a different building product is used instead of the specified product. These situations are a special problem for building product manufacturers and are costly to design professionals, building owners and contractors. This program delivers an urgent message about the sources of the problem and offers suggestions for preventing abuses, and when substitutions are necessary. It explains the 'right' way to handle substitutions to protect the integrity of the building process.

Learning Objectives
  • Learn how substitutions undermine the credibility of construction specifications.
  • Understand howbstitutions increase the chances of construction defects.
  • Learn how to control factors that lead to substitutions.
  • Identify the "right" way to make substitutions.
Train your entire team with one registration fee-participants are charged per site/telephone connection-not per person. Space is limited and is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

All registrations must be received 24 hours prior to the webinar. Click here.

We received the following comment:

"Hopefully the Chusid brothers touch on how many engineers specifications are outdated, have manufacturers that don’t even make certain products listed in sections, have different specifications coming out of the same offices, etc…. As a supplier, there is another side to this coin."

I replied:

Thank you for raising your concern that our webinar on substitutions reflect "another side of the coin."

Your complaint is very familiar to me. I remember being offered a job as a spec writer at an engineering firm. While touring the premises, I saw a room full of old project manuals. When I inquired about them, the prospective employer say, "We just put a new cover page on them and reuse the same specs on all our projects." I declined the offer of employment.

The intent of our program is not to scold suppliers. In fact, suppliers are more often "victims" of substitutions than they are "perpetrators".

I hope you sign up and join us. Your questions and comments will make the webinar more interactive and lively.
